Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¾ cup milk or buttermilk, room temperature
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch cake pan.
- In a bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, and cinnamon.
- In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until fluffy.
- Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla.
- Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk to wet mixture, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Mix gently.
- Pour batter into prepared pan and smooth top.
- Bake for 40–50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Cool in pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before serving.
